This is us

Johns Hopkins researchers identified the unmet need for eyeglasses among students through the Baltimore Reading and Eye Disease Study in 2015. This research helped promote a school-based health initiative that laid the foundation for what is now the Vision for Baltimore program. As a result, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore City Public Schools, and the Baltimore City Health Department partnered to launch the initiative, bringing in Vision To Learn to provide mobile eye exams at schools. Warby Parker joined as a partner, generously producing and donating eyeglasses for all students in need. Together, these organizations form the core of the Vision for Baltimore program, working to ensure every student can see clearly and thrive in school.

Our mission is to provide complete vision care services to the students of Baltimore City Public Schools to achieve academic success. Our goal is to strengthen the community we care so deeply about, provide tools for success, and guide our scholars to achieve greatness. Together we can impact the learning environment for tomorrow’s leaders, today.

Partner Spotlight:

Vision To Learn

About one in five kids will naturally need eyeglasses to see the board, read a book, or participate in class. Unfortunately, in low-income communities across the country, 95% of kids who need glasses, about 2,000,000 in total, do not have them. Vision To Learn was founded to make sure every child has the eyeglasses they need to succeed in school and in life. Our mobile clinics solve the problem by bringing eye exams and eyeglasses, free of charge, to children at schools in low-income communities.
