Overview

The Vision for Baltimore program provides vision care services to students in all Baltimore City Public Schools, helping ensure they receive eyeglasses. The program visits a group of schools each year and returns every three years to make sure students continue to have access to eye care.

Students at selected schools receive free vision services, including screenings, eye exams, and eyeglasses. These services help support students’ ability to see clearly and succeed in school.

To bring vision care to students, each school goes through several important steps before services beginโ€”and support from parents and guardians plays a key role in helping children receive the care they need.

1. Screening

When Vision for Baltimore visits your school, the Baltimore City Health Department will screen all students in Pre-K through 8th grade. If your student does not pass the screening, a follow-up eye exam will be recommended.

2. Consent

To receive a no-cost eye exam, a parent or guardian must complete a Consent Form. The form may be sent by email, paper form, or verbally over the phone.

3. Exams

A licensed optometrist will perform the eye exam in a Vision To Learn mobile clinic at the school. If a student needs glasses, an optician will help them choose frames from Warby Parker.

4. Dispensing

Glasses will be delivered to the school about four weeks after the exam. Each pair will come with a case and instructions on how to use and care for them.
